Peer Education

The Peer Education teaching model draws on the credibility that young people have with their peers and leverages the power of role modeling to increase knowledge and safer behaviors among teens.

Research suggests that it’s more likely for a message to sink in when it comes from someone people believe is similar to them, who faces the same concerns and pressures. Peer Education empowers teens to make healthy decisions around sex, violence, and substance use.

Our Programs

The KBFPC's Education Team offers a variety of instruction for youth and adults to create an informed and teen-friendly community.

Healthy Relationships Workshops

Hosted in our Educational Space in Homer, young people learn vital, age-appropriate health information when they need it most. Utilizing the district-approved health curriculum, workshop content may include discussions around consent, communication, values, reproductive anatomy, sexually transmitted infections/STDs, contraception, and dating violence/healthy relationships. We ensure young people know about essential resources, and help them begin important conversations with parents or trusted adults. Check our Calendar for upcoming sessions. Offered three times per school year.
